2015 Jul 22

Mansfield's Charlsie Bowen and Kelsey Carlsen have been named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field individual honors while Mountaineer women's track and field was named to All-Academic Team recognition.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either indoor or outdoor seasons. All-Academic Team honors are awarded to programs earning a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. A total of 115 women's teams and 62 men's teams earned the distinction in 2015.

Bowen, a USTFCCCA All-Region selection, had a stellar freshman season in 2015 finishing fifth in the pole vault at both the PSAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships. In May, Bowen broke the Mansfield pole vault record with an NCAA provisional height of 3.70 meters at the Oneonta Invitational. She is an elementary education major.

Carlsen finished eighth in the javelin at the PSAC Outdoor Championships and hit NCAA provisional marks in five different meets. Her top throw of 43.0 meters at the Mountaineer invitational was the sixth best in the conference in 2015. Carlsen is an environmental science major.

As a team, Mountaineer women's track and field registered a 3.14 cumulative GPA.
