Carlsen Named CoSIDA Academic All-American

2016 Jun 23

Mansfield University's Kelsey Carlsen (Rome, Pa./Northeast Bradford) has been selected to CoSIDA 3rd Team Academic All-American honors for Track & Field/Cross Country in voting conducted by a committee of sports information directors from around the country and released today.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American program dates back to the 1950's and is one of the highest achievements for a student-athlete, highlighting athletic and academic prowess.

Carlsen is the first female track & field athlete in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All- American and is just the eighth Mansfield student-athlete across any sport to be named to the honor. She is one of just seven PSAC student-athletes to make the women's track & field/cross country All-American list.

The senior javelin thrower, who graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in environmental science at Mansfield's spring commencement, compiled an impressive cumulative GPA of 3.98. She is a three-time PSAC and MU Presidential Scholar-Athlete.

Carlsen was one of just 10 female track & field student-athletes from District 2 (Pennsylvania, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey and West Virginia) to earn Academic All-District honors in May. That qualified the senior for voting in the All-American ballot.

Carlsen earned All-Atlantic Region and All-PSAC honors with her school record javelin throw of 46.50 meters at the PSAC Championships in May. That throw was good for a third place finish at the conference meet. Carlsen made her second career trip to the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships this season where she finished 20th overall.
