Courtney Bauder and Westyn Baylor Named MU Spring Athletes of the Year

Softball's Courtney Bauder and baseball's Westyn Baylor have been named 2015 Mansfield University Spring Athletes of the Year.

A 1st Team All-PSAC East selection, Bauder topped the Mountaineers in almost every statistical category in 2015. The senior batted a team-best .350 at the plate with 43 hits in 123 at bats. Starting all 37 games at either second base or outfield, Bauder drove in 26 runs while scoring 21 herself. She recorded 73 total bases while hitting 12 doubles, three triples and four home runs. Bauder was just as stellar in the field, posting a .954 fielding % with only four errors in 87 chances. She totaled 45 putouts with 38 assists.

Bauder started every game in her Mountaineer career and posted a career .326 batting average. Her 155 career games is the third most in school history and she also ranks third in hits (167) and triples (8). Bauder is second in doubles (48) and extra-base hits (71), fourth in RBI's (87) and stolen bases (27) as well as fifth in home runs (15). She also ranks among the top ten in on-base percentage, slugging percentage and runs scored. She was instrumental in helping the Mountaineers to the 2014 PSAC Central title as well as a PSAC and NCAA playoff berths in 2015.

Baylor was named to 1st Team ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region and 1st Team All-PSAC East honors at outfield following the 2015 season. The senior also earned PSAC East Co-Athlete of the Week recognition during the season.

Baylor was one of the most feared hitters in the conference, leading the Mountaineers and ranking 13th in the PSAC with a .394 batting average. He led Mansfield in hits (56), home runs (10), RBIs (39), total bases (95) and slugging % (.669) and was second in runs (36). Making starts at right field in all 40 games, Baylor posted a .970 fielding % with 64 putouts.

Baylor strung together a 12-game hit streak that ended with an 0-4 outing against East Stroudsburg before putting together a career-best 15-game hit streak. Without the hitless game at ESU, Baylor would have set a new PSAC hit streak record at 28 games. He hit safely in 33 of 40 games played including an incredible 18 multi-hit performances.

In his two seasons with Mansfield, Baylor hit .361 with 83 RBIs and 65 runs. He totaled 39 extra base hits with 19 doubles, 17 home runs and three triples.
