Field Hockey Puts 16 Student-Athletes on NFHCA All-Academic Squad with Three Scholars of Distinction

Mountaineer field hockey registered the third highest GPA in NCAA Division II to earn 2014 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Academic Team honors while placing 16 student-athletes on the National Academic Squad including three Scholars of Distinction.

The NFHCA is a non-profit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to stimulate the professional development of coaching leadership within the sport of field hockey.

As a team, Mansfield posted a team GPA of 3.49 which was the third highest amongst the 29 field hockey teams that compete at the Division II level. The Mountaineers were one of 11 PSAC institutions to earn NFHCA Academic Team recognition.

Rebecca Adams (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton), Emily Blidy (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse), Julie Cacace (Vernon, N.J. Vernon Township), Mallory Christman (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood), Nikita Grove (Marietta, Pa./Elizabethtown), Kayla Grunza (Nicholson, Pa./Lackawanna Trail), Brianna Hathaway (Apalachin, N.Y./Owego Free), Laura Lawson (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley), Katie Lipski (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), Victoria Malatesta (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg), Sabrina Shrawder (Danville, Pa./Danville), Gabrielle Spatz (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), Haley Stevens (Marietta, Pa./Donegal), Jessi Swingle (Hunlock Creek, Pa./Lake-Lehman), Chelsea Tanco (Apalachin, N.Y./Owego Free) and Avery Yoder (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) were all named to NFHCA National Academic Squad honors for earning a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year. Grove, Grunza and Swingle are four-time members of the National Academic Squad.

Mansfield also placed three student-athletes on the NFHCA Scholars of Distinction list in Cacace, Hathaway and Lawson who all registered a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year. It marks back-to-back years that Hathaway and Lawson have earned Scholar of Distinction accolades. Only 41 Division II student-athletes were named to the Scholar of Distinction list.
