Fitzpatrick Named Women's Basketball MVP; Jackson Named Most Improved

2015 Apr 1

Junior Katie Fitzpatrick (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) was named Mansfield University women's basketball Most Valuable Player while sophomore Tianna Jackson (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) was selected Most Improved. The announcement was made at the Mansfield Winter Sports Banquet this past Monday by head coach Alison Tagliaferri.

Fitzpatrick was the undisputed leader for the Mountaineers during the 2014-15 season. The junior started all 26 games for the Mountaineers and became the first player in school history to lead her team in scoring, rebounding, assists, blocks and steals in a season. Fitzpatrick became the first Mountaineer women's basketball player to lead the PSAC in steals with 74 during the regular season. She also set a school record -- and recorded the most steals in a game in the PSAC this season -- with her 11 takeaways against Mercyhurst. Her 32 points in a game at Shippensburg were the most points scored by a Mountaineer player in a game in the last 20 years. Fitzpatrick ranked 17th in the PSAC in scoring, averaging 13.0 points per game.

Jackson started all 26 games for the Mountaineers and was third on the team in scoring averaging 8.7 points per game. The sophomore led the Mountaineers in field goal percentage shooting 81% from the line. Jackson totaled 225 points, 58 rebounds, 25 assists and 32 steals on the season.
