Foster and Maniscalco Named Mansfield Fall Athletes of the Year

2014 Dec 3

Cross country's Destiny Foster and sprint football's Mike Maniscalco were named the 2014 Mansfield University Fall Athletes of the Year at the annual Fall Sports Banquet at North Manser Dining Hall Tuesday night.

As a sophomore, Foster was the top finisher in every meet this season for the Mountaineers and became the first runner in school history to capture the triple crown of earning All-ECAC, All-PSAC and All-NCAA East Region honors.

During the regular season, Foster finished fourth out of 159 runners at the Don Cathcart Invitational before placing fifth at the Bloomsburg Invitational. Foster turned in an eighth place finish in a field of 109 of the best Division II runners to earn All-East honors and help her team to a fourth place overall finish at the ECAC Championship held in Mansfield.

Returning to Lambs Creek two weeks later for the PSAC Championship, Foster earned All-PSAC honors finishing 20th in the 153 runner field. She bettered that performance two weeks later at the NCAA East Regional, finishing 14th overall out of a field of 162 runners, leading her team to a 13th place showing amongst the 24-team field.

Maniscalco quickly became one of the most exciting players in the CSFL, finishing the season as the league's top passer and one of its most feared players. During the course of the year, the senior rewrote the school record book, completing 135-of-272 passing attempts for 1,801 yards and 16 touchdowns. His 1,801 passing yards were more than 500 yards better than any other quarterback in the CSFL.

Maniscalco topped the CSFL in number of passes, number of completions, and yards, while also leading the league in total offense averaging 257.0 yards per game. He set school records in each of those categories. Twice this season Maniscalco passed for more than 300 yards in a game, a milestone never before achieved in MU sprint football history. His 380 yards in passing and five touchdowns against Army earned him CSFL Offensive Player of the Week honors and was one of the greatest efforts in school history.

The signal-caller holds every career passing mark in school history with 234 completions for 3,072 yards and 26 touchdowns. All told, Maniscalco set a total of 18 game, season and career school records during the course of the season on his way to being selected to All-CSFL honors.
