Medura Named Women's Swimming MVP; Zdancewicz Named Most Improved

2015 Apr 1

Sophomore Connie Medura (Nanticoke, Pa./Nanticoke) was named Mansfield University women's swimming Most Valuable Player while sophomore Abigail Zdancewicz (Sprigville, Pa./Elk Lake) was selected Most Improved. The announcement was made at the Mansfield Winter Sports Banquet this past Monday by assistant coach Joey Andrews.

Medura left little doubt who the MVP of the team was with her consistent efforts all throughout the year. Medura led the Mountaineers in a dual meet with Lock Haven with her first place finish in the 100 breast stroke with a time of 1:13.66. The sophomore powered the Mounties to a first place finish in a four-team invite at Chatham with three first place finishes. Medura qualified for her second PSAC event as she broke Stephanie Klegarth's eight-year-old school record in the 200 breaststroke at the Diamond City Invitational. Medura was able to edge Edinboro's Emily Kling by .59 seconds in the sophomore's 2:37.54 finish in the 200 breaststroke at the PSAC Championships.

Zdancewicz helped the Mounties to a 3-1 start with a pair of first place finishes in the 800 freestyle with an 11:01.35 and the 400 freestyle in 5:02.85. The sophomore broke her previous school record in the 500 freestyle with a first place finish of 5:19.77 in the first session of the Diamond City Invitational. Zdancewicz outswam her 2013 record by 3.72 seconds. Zdancewicz's performance punched her ticket in the 500 freestyle for the PSAC Championship Meet. Zdancewicz continued her success at the PSAC Championships by breaking her school record in the 100 freestyle on the first day of competition.
